i just took a shower and i’m wearing sweatpants and a sweater and i’m sitting in my new large goodwill chair and i turned on all my “mood lighting” and i’m listening to some chill jams, i have reached maximum comfort and minimum productivity
Q:can you tell my why tarantula and spatula have the same ending
-lus is an ending in latin that is used to derive a diminutive version of a noun, for example “homunculus” is “little man,” from “homo,” and “Caligula” is “little boot,” from “caliga.” a lot of these stems take the form “ulus”
i dont know the specific etymological histories of tarantula and spatula. tarantula apparently comes from “taranto,” a city in italy, and spatula comes from “spatha,” a word for a flat item or tool. the former seems to be a medieval latin word but the latter is a good ol fashioned latin word
anyway there you go, they have the same ending because it’s the latin diminutive
